This page explains when you might require an Interloan through Porirua Library and how to go about obtaining an Interloan.
Interloans are those items which we borrow from other libraries for you.
Porirua Public Library is part of the Interloans Scheme which allows borrowing among libraries throughout New Zealand and Australia.
You can interloan most books, most CDs, some videos and DVDs and magazine articles, if Porirua Library does not have them.
Each item borrowed from a New Zealand library costs $5. Items coming from Australia cost $15.00 each; items from other overseas countries carry additional costs.
Check the Library catalogue first to make sure we do not already have the item you want. If you have a SMART library card, check the SMART catalogue.
If you can't find the item, go to the Make a Request page to find out how to make a request, or go straight to our Interlibrary Loan Request page.
You can also fill out a request card in one of our libraries. Please provide as many details about the item being requested as you can. Remember to fill out your details on the back of the card.
Put the card into the request box on the desk, or hand to a librarian.
You can also telephone or email your request.
Your request will be actioned within three days.
The item should arrive within one week, but no guarantees can be given.
You will be sent a letter or an email when your interloan arrives.
The interloan period is four to six weeks. In most cases, you can renew your interloan. Telephone or email the Library a few days before it is due and give them the name of the interloan. Usually it will be able to be renewed for a further three weeks.
You will not be able to interloan books less than six months old, reference works, some videos and DVDs, whole issues of magazines, or items we already have.
If you have any queries, please contact our Interloans Librarian on email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone (04) 237 1533.
