This page explains how to reserve an item from Porirua Library, a SMART library and the costs involved.
Borrowers can reserve items from the Porirua Library collection. You can reserve books, CDs and DVDs. You can also reserve magazines, either a single issue or every issue of a particular title. You cannot put a reserve on bestsellers or reference items.
You also have the option to reserve items from any SMART library if you opt to become a SMART borrower.
There is no charge for reservations on items from Porirua Library or other SMART libraries, except for DVDs and CDs, where the normal rates for each SMART library will apply (see SMART charges).
Check the Library catalogue to see if the item is held and to obtain the details, i.e. author and title. You can place a reservation from the online catalogue, if you have a password, by entering your Borrower ID number and password in the login boxes. Ask a library staff member to set up a password for you if you do not have one.
Alternatively, fill out a reservation card at the front desk and put it into the request box or hand it to a librarian. You can also email the library or telephone with your request. If the library does not have the item you want, go to our Make a Request page to find out how to request an interloan or suggest a purchase.
You will receive a text, email or letter when your reservation is available to collect. Reserved books are held for 10 days and magazines are held for seven days.
Items can be returned free of charge to any SMART library, including branches, regardless of where they are from.
