This page describes the Porirua Library Catalogue and how to access the catalogue.
Ebooks are now available for Porirua Library members to download. Click here to find out more or go to epukapuka.org.
The Porirua City Library online catalogue allows you to search the library’s database of over 140,000 books, magazines, and audio-visual media.
The Library does not provide access to the contents of books and whole issues of journals online. You may access some full text electronic magazine articles on computers in the Library. You can access online books at The Online Books Page from the link below.
Having problems accessing the Online Catalogue:
Some people may experience difficulty in accessing the online catalogue. In most cases, this is because your Council, company or government department has a firewall in place, which interacts with the Porirua City Council’s firewall to cause timing-out. The best solution is to try again from a stand-alone computer.
Alternatively, contact the manager of your IT section regarding the problem. You can also phone our issue desk for help on phone (04) 237 1533.
Reserving items online:
You can place reservations on most catalogue items. Reference books and other items not for loan cannot be reserved. You will need your library card number and a PIN number. Ask a library staff member to enter a pin number for you if you do not have one. For more information, go to our Reservations page.
Interloaning items online:
Requests for items not on the catalogue can be made via the Interlibrary Loan Request page or emailed to the Interloans Librarian on email@example.com. There is a charge of $5.00 for this service if the item is sourced within New Zealand. Australian interloans will cost $15.00. For more information go to our Interloan Services page.
Checking your own library record:
Click on the link to the library catalogue and then click on Login in the My Library box. You will need your library card number and a PIN number. Ask a library staff member to enter a pin number for you if you do not have one.
Obtaining a PIN number:
Ask a staff member at the library issue desk and we will enter one for you, or telephone (04) 237 1533. You will need to provide suitable identification.
The Online Databases page is where you can search across thousands of articles on a range of topics, browse online magazines and newspapers, or link to a site that has the answers you need.
